Capturing the presence of God

What are life-giving moments?

Today I begin a new adventure in my own spiritual journey and as a Spiritual Director.
Today I am writing my first blog post, Life-Giving Moments. Yikes!
I have often said that I am not very good at writing and I am not a faithful one to journal either.
However, I am taking a risk, albeit terrifying, on a new path and it feels life-giving to me.

As with any new adventure, you try to plan for all the variables, which is impossible to say the least.
I am going to try anyway....
First, I want it to make sense and make a difference, touching someone else
with pieces and bits of my story. I want to communicate the value of something,
especially so that others will benefit.
Second, I hope that I remember I stink at correct grammar, sometimes my spelling
and to double check it.
(LOL as I spelled grammar incorrectly the first time I wrote it here).
Third, and probably most important I hope I am expressing something that God desires me to share.
I'm praying!

What are Life-Giving Moments? And why this title?
Well, on my Facebook Page for Transforming Experiences, occasionally I will share
what I call Life-Giving Moments. Life-giving moments are an experience of a present
point in time where your soul has connected with God. It is like looking through a camera lens,
putting your finger on the button and snapping a photo. It captures and connects the
present to the Presence (the Presence of God).

In the ordinary of our day God encourages us to "now CHOOSE LIFE,
so that you and your children may live, and that you may love the Lord your God,
listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the Lord is your Life." Deuteronomy 30:19-20.
Jesus shares with us his thoughts in John 10:10, "I have come to give LIFE, and life abundantly."
And again in John 14:6 "I am...the LIFE." Now we can know one of God's desires is for us to
 live life fully alive!

One the ways to become more aware of God's Presence in what seems our ordinary
everyday life is noticing things that are life-giving to us. For example, I feel fully alive
when I sit with another person listening to a portion of their life story and how God is
forming them, inviting them, drawing them to connect at a different level, live freer,
and moving them to live more fully into the way He has designed them. It is life-giving to be
able to ask a question, affirm them or guide them with a resource for a next step on their spiritual path.

Life-giving moments for me include a gorgeous array of colors in a sunset, getting a massage
or a hug-a touch from another human being, seeing the first glimpses of Spring in the
purple buds of a plant. These give us glimpses of Emmanuel, God With Us and Who God is.
It helps us become more attuned to His Presence in any given moment,
the ordinary extraordinary!

Life-giving moments remind us when life is tough, we do not feel a connection
with God or others, or when we are facing a difficult situation to stop and take care of ourselves.
Self-care is stopping to ask the question, "What do I most need right now?" It is one of the
questions Jesus asked most often in one form or another. "What you do want?"
(Mt 20:32, Mk 10:36, Lk 18:41, Jn 1:38). Jesus wants us to get in touch with our desires
and he wants to provide the answers. Self-care includes reminding ourselves of the
things that fill up our empty tanks, restore our souls and bring life, energy
and rest to a dead place within us.

Life-giving moments offer us glimpses of self-knowledge, of the most authentic self I am in God.
We can know that life-giving things are in line with our True Self in God.
Our True Self always being in God, coming from God and revealing who He created us to be.
This deeper knowing of self will be a guide to knowing God more fully and being more fully known.
These moments will be a guide into the image of God we are to reflect to others. We can take note of
these life-giving moments and begin to live more fully into our True Self as we
CHOOSE LIFE!

Things that are Life-Giving will bear the fruit of the Spirit –
Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Gentleness, Faithfulness and Self-Control.
They will image God’s nature in relationships, his creativity, in our bodies, minds and souls.
My hope as I share my own Life-Giving Moments through this blog and on my daily post on Facebook
is that you too will begin to notice your own Life-Giving moments.
Lean into your True Self in God and CHOOSE more of that which is LIFE-GIVING!!
God desires it for you! Say "Yes" to the invitation!

PS if you find a grammatical or spelling error it is ok. I am human and I make mistakes sometimes!
